The centre is the dream of the Rev. Emmanuel A. Appiah from Ghana, since 1987, to establish a study centre to help pastors, evangelists, and other church workers for them to always renewing their minds for Christ's ministry. It had been on Emmanuel's heart as to how the servants of the Lord would continue to effectively tell the story about Jesus Christ to believers and non-believers.
Emmanuel started to purchase books with the gifts of money he received from individuals and churches in support of his ministry. Arriving in Canada in December 1998 for further studies at the Canadian Bible College/Theological Seminary (now Ambrose University), brought more motivation towards the dream as Emmanuel met some Christian friends who were interested to join him to bring the dream - building a study centre comprising a library, a conference hall, a hostel, and an administration block - to reality.
The Lord brought in the late David Temple, Rev. Doug Codling, Mr. Ron Anderson, Mr. John Bart Anderson, Dr. William Osei, Dr. Elizabeth Cooper, Wayne Gosselin and Sharon Krahn to help the work. Mr. Sandy Ayer, Director of Library Services of the Ambrose University has been providing advice on book selection for the library. Because of the late David Temple's commitment and dedication, serving as the first Secretary/Treasurer, the then Board of Directors decided to name the library, "David Temple's Library" to honour him.
The name, The Shepherd's Christian Centre for Spiritual Renewal Incorporated, was later adopted, from among others, to replace "The West Africa Christian Centre for Spiritual Renewal", the initial name of the proposed centre. The present logo which was also chosen was designed free of charge by "The Copy Cellar", a printing company in Calgary, Alberta, in Canada, as their support for the dream.
In December of 2004, The Shepherd's Christian Centre for Spiritual Renewal Incorporated was registered with the Saskatchewan Provincial Government and subsequently with the Canada Revenue Agency as a charitable organization in the category of missionary and preaching of the Gospel.
